* Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released its annual economic report for 2018, according to which the country’s GDP contracted by 3.8% last year. The BCN has also released the monthly economic activity index (Imae) for December 2018, which reveals a 0.2% contraction in economic activity compared to November 2018, and a 7.1% year-on-year contraction. The BCN lists agriculture, livestock, healthcare, and teaching amongst the areas which registered positive growth over the accumulated 12 months to December 2018, while construction, transport & communications, and hotels & restaurants are amongst the industries that contracted.
