* Brazil’s President
Jair Bolsonaro has celebrated the successful auction of six port terminals in the northern state of Pará, five of which form part of Miramar port in Pará’s capital, Belém. A government press release reveals that the six terminals went for a total of R$447.9m (US$115.7m). According to the national agency of water transport (Antaq) the terminals were, until the sale, public infrastructure used for the storage and transportation of liquid bulk, in particular fuel. Infrastructure Minister
Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, who attended the auction at the São Paulo stock exchange, afterwards tweeted:
We have a plan for infrastructure in Brazil, and that plan is being fulfilled”. The auctions form part of a wider initiative led by the
Bolsonaro government for the privatisation of public infrastructure. In the first three months of his term, the government has sold the concessions for 23 railways, highways, and airports. In response to the auction of the six port terminals, President
Bolsonaro tweeted
“goal achieved and investments confirmed that will bring development to the Brazilian states and economy”.End of preview - This article contains approximately 181 words.
