* Brazil’s President
Jair Bolsonaro has affirmed his government’s commitment to economic freedom in a speech given to mark International Labour Day. In reference to a provisional decree (MP) on economic freedom announced the previous day, President Bolsonaro stated that it had already been put into action and would allow
“every citizen to grow without the interference of the state”. The MP’s purpose is to guarantee the right to free enterprise and the exercise of economic activity. It will do away with bureaucratic procedures that can hinder the setting up of new businesses with the view to stimulating entrepreneurship and generating jobs and income. Bolsonaro’s speech also acknowledged the difficulties that the government has been facing, assuring that
“we will overcome these initial difficulties which are a natural part of a government transition”.
