* Bolivia’s government led by President Evo Morales has signed an agreement with the country's main umbrella union Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) establishing a 4% general salary increase and a 3% increase in the national minimum wage for this year. The COB had initially called for increases of 12% and 10% respectively. Inflation closed last year at 1.51%. The salary increases, which followed negotiations between President Morales and the COB bring the monthly minimum wage from B2,060 (US$296.29) to B2,120. The two groups also agreed to increase pensioners’ monthly income payments in the second half of the year and to build 2,500 housing units for COB workers. The two groups announced their intention to push two bills through Bolivia’s national assembly - one on the national health fund and one on labour legislation.
