Internal discord threatens to check Morena momentum

Following several months of scarcely-contained tension, on 23 April, Senator Alejandro Armenta of Mexico’s ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party met with party’s gubernatorial candidate for the Puebla state by-elections, Miguel Barbosa, to settle their differences and plaster the cracks appearing in the governing party. The meeting was intended to put to bed an issue which has been plaguing the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for more than five months.
