In brief: Brazil

* The Brazilian government has welcomed the outcome of an anti-dumping investigation by Peru’s competition and intellectual property protection authority (Indecopi), which concluded that imports of Brazilian steel were not undermining the Peruvian steel industry. Indecopi launched the anti-dumping investigation into steel imported from Brazil and Mexico in 2017, following complaints from local steel producers. In a joint note, Brazil’s foreign and economy ministries celebrated the result of Indecopi’s investigation as “important for the economic-trade relation between Brazil and Peru”, as steel represents one of Brazil’s principal exports to the Andean country. Brazilian steel producers have been suffering from the imposition of safeguard measures by the European Union (EU) on its steel imports, a response to the US’s decision to tax its own steel imports.
