Costa Rica: Alvarado points to more security success

At the start of last month Costa Rica’s public security ministry (MPS) released new figures which showed there were 130 homicides in the first quarter of 2019 – a drop of 25 compared with the same period in 2018. This is a further boost for the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) government led by President Carlos Alvarado which took office in May 2018. Earlier this year President Alvarado had pointed to a reduction in homicides in 2018 – the first decline in five years.
