PERU: Agricultural sector shakes Vizcarra

Small-scale agricultural producers staged a 24-hour national strike in Peru this week demanding more government assistance for the sector. The strike served as a reminder for the government led by President Martín Vizcarra that while it remains determined to solve the political and judicial crisis linked to corruption that has been affecting the country since last year, this should not be its only focus as there are other pressing matters to address. The Vizcarra administration is now under pressure to appease the agricultural sector or risk the discontent spreading to other quarters that have also become frustrated with its focus on corruption to the detriment of other issues.
