Duque pursues new tack to circumvent Colombian peace accord

Colombia’s President Iván Duque is engaging in high-stakes talks with the majority of the country’s political parties. Duque wants to forge a political pact to redefine aspects of the peace accord with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and constrain the remit of the transitional justice system (JEP). This is ostensibly to combat impunity, but it comes against the backdrop of mounting US pressure over increased cocaine flows and restrictions to extradition.
