BRAZIL: Another split in the Bolsonaro base

Following on from a series of setbacks in congress [WR-19-19] and large-scale nationwide protests on 15 May, President Jair Bolsonaro’s government is weakened. Bolsonaro might have been betting upon pro-government demonstrations, called for 26 May, to give him a boost. But he has been forced to distance himself from these planned displays of support, as they have so far served to divide his supporters and once again expose the lack of unity within the ruling Partido Social Liberal (PSL).
