In brief: Argentina

* Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri inaugurated the Argentina Exporta forum in Buenos Aires where he and his production & labour minister Dante Sica presented a plan for export development, the outline of which has been agreed with representatives from the business sector. “Argentina has never had such a big an export impulse as now, and this is the time to display our talent,” Macri said. Sica highlighted that more than 6,500 Argentine companies have sent their products to 175 countries this year to date, and that the aim is to triple exports and quadruple the number of exporting companies by 2030. Sica also said that the government is working on tripling its number of trade deals, noting that the country currently has deals with 10% of the world’s GDP. The forum is hosting negotiations between 50 international buyers and 300 Argentine companies from the food & drink, hardware, automobile parts, and cosmetic sectors. According to the government, Argentina exported almost US$75bn in 2018.
