In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s energy minister, Rocío Nahle, has signalled that the Mexican government is committed to strengthening the national energy industry. Nahle recently stated that the Mexican government must firstly ensure the proper functioning of the energy sector within the country by “simplifying the entire bureaucratic process”, before opening the sector to interested companies and seeking private investments. The local media cited Nahle as saying that she has met with businesses which have won 107 oil concession contracts and that the government will respect these contracts before giving out any more. Nahle was cited as saying that these actions are a means of addressing bureaucratic and technical problems that have been found in the past six months.
