In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s council of coffee exporters (Cecafé) has released its monthly report on exports which shows that the country exported over 3.5m sacks of coffee (1 sack = 60 kg) in May this year, a 103.5% increase on last May’s export volumes and a new record for the month of May. These figures include green coffee, soluble coffee, and roasted ground coffee. The value of exports totalled US$416.2m, with the average price of a sack of coffee falling to US$118.26, a 22.4% decrease on last year and the lowest price in the last five years. Despite the continuous fall of the price of coffee worldwide, Nelson Carvalhaes, Cecafé president, remains optimistic and celebrated the “very positive” performance of Brazilian coffee exports, not only in May but throughout 2019 so far and for the July 2018-June 2019 crop year.
