* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released figures for agricultural harvests, which show that the May 2019 cereal, legume and oleaginous crop is expected to yield 234.7m tonnes, a 3.6% increase on the yield of the May 2018 crop. The Ibge also expects a 2.7% increase on the total area harvested in 2019, to 62.6m hectares. Rice, maize, and soya make up an estimated 92.4% of the total harvest and 87.4% of the harvested area, with an expected 15.7% increase in the production of maize compared to last May, but a respective 11.2% and 4.5% drop in the production of rice and soya.
