In brief: Brazil

* China has allowed beef exports from Brazil to resume, Brazil’s agriculture minister Tereza Cristina da Costa Dias has announced. Brazilian exports of beef products to China were suspended on 3 June following the confirmed discovery of an atypical case of ‘mad cow’ disease in the state of Mato Grosso, in line with the terms of a bilateral health protocol signed between China and Brazil in 2015. Da Costa Dias noted that China’s rapid lifting of the embargo on Brazilian beef exports was due to the successful negotiations of the agriculture ministry (Mapa) and the foreign ministry (Itamaraty) with the Chinese authorities.
