CUBA | Díaz-Canel calls for decentralised economy. Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced this week that from 2020 state workers would be at the forefront of their companies’ economic development. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 8th congress of Cuba’s association of economists and accountants, Díaz-Canel called for the “active participation” of those in attendance to apply this decision. Díaz-Canel, who took office in April 2018, said that the economic plans “will not come from above,” in a measure which he calls “bold and revolutionary and which demands objectivity, realism, and conscience.”
