Díaz-Canel calls for decentralised economy. Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced this week that from 2020 state workers would be at the forefront of their companies’ economic development. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 8
th congress of Cuba’s association of economists and accountants, Díaz-Canel called for the “active participation” of those in attendance to apply this decision. Díaz-Canel, who took office in April 2018, said that the economic plans “will not come from above,” in a measure which he calls “bold and revolutionary and which demands objectivity, realism, and conscience.”
