VENEZUELA: Former intelligence chief escapes to US

On 25 June, it was revealed that General Manuel Ricardo Cristopher Figuera, the former head of Venezuela’s national intelligence service (Sebin), who surprisingly backed opposition leader Juan Guaidó’s efforts to replace President Nicolás Maduro in April, had arrived in Washington DC after spending two months in hiding in Colombia.
