COLOMBIA: Congress scuppers anti-corruption bill

President Iván Duque was in Switzerland as part of a three-nation tour of Europe on 20 June when the news came through that Colombia’s congress had sunk his government’s anti-corruption bill. It was awkward timing for Duque who had made a point during his first port of call in the UK earlier in the week that his government took a very strong stance on corruption. The negative impression was doubly damaging as he was heading a trade delegation seeking to drum up investment in mining and infrastructure, as well as tourism and services.
