MEXICO: Job creation figures becomes political issue

Job creation data has become a new political battleground in Mexico. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has accused the local press of misrepresenting the official formal job creation figures in an apparent attempt to influence the public’s view of his administration. This has been rejected by the media, which says that it strictly reports on the official figures provided by the social security institute (IMSS). The controversy has once again raised concerns about López Obrador’s refusal to accept any form of negative feedback and his insistence that his administration is delivering on all fronts even when concrete evidence of this not readily available.
