Guyana looking to update security pact with Brazil

It is no surprise that Guyana is seeking to deepen its defence cooperation with Brazil given the turmoil in neighbouring Venezuela, and the fact that Venezuela continues to claim around two-thirds of Guyanese territory. Indeed, on 22 December, a Venezuelan naval vessel intercepted two boats in Guyanese waters preparing for a seismic survey in the western portion of the oil-rich Stabroek Block.
