HAITI: 'Little Machete Army' triggers return of violence
With the arrival of July came the return to Haiti of gang violence with political overtones that had all but disappeared since President René Préval took office five months earlier. The government has been playing down the political component, blaming the upsurge entirely on criminal elements and criticising the UN stabilisation force, Minustah, for not doing enough.
