Duque hosts UNSC amid surge in killings of social leaders

The 15 members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) conducted a visit to Colombia on 13 July to monitor the implementation of the country’s peace accord. During their visit, President Iván Duque appealed for the UN to extend the presence of its verification mission in Colombia for another year, saying it was “vital for the reincorporation process [of demobilised guerrillas]”.
