Finance minister’s resignation raises questions over policy direction

The resignation of the market-friendly finance minister Carlos Urzúa in early July and his parting shot – a resignation letter that formed a damning indictment of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration – has rocked markets. Another market-friendly figure has been appointed to replace him, but fundamental questions remain about the extent to which orthodox policies are being eclipsed by an executive office that is prioritising ideology.
