US steel duties add to string of bad news

The imposition of fresh tariffs on Mexican steel exports to the US comes at a difficult time for the Mexican government, when it could really have done with some good news on the economy. The relatively small size of steel exports means the development will have limited negative repercussions, but the timing is poor given that the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has yet to be ratified in the US congress.
