Colombia’s homicides up for the first time in eight years

Reversing an eight-year downward trend, the overall number of homicides in Colombia rose by 6.7% last year to reach 12,130, according to the annual Forensis report published by the government’s National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IML). There is a debate over the causes of the increase, and over the validity of some early claims of improvement in the first half of 2019.
