Calls to address femicides in the Andean region

Femicides, defined as the murder of women over 15 years of age due to their gender, remain an important problem throughout Latin America. Late last year, Alicia Bárcena, the executive secretary of the United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) called on the region’s countries to give priority to public policies aimed at preventing, sanctioning, and eradicating all forms of violence against women in the region.
