Brazil & Southern Cone - August 2019

This August edition of the Latin American Regional Report: Brazil & Southern Cone covers a variety of business-, economy- and security-related issues in all the countries of the sub-region. Crime and insecurity are of particular concern in Argentina and Uruguay, as they are issues which could impact voting intentions ahead of the presidential elections in these countries in October. However, our first two articles look at efforts to combat crime from a transnational perspective, presenting examples of successful international cooperation between governments of the sub-region and beyond to fight organised crime, whether that is arms trafficking from the US, or the South American activities of the Italian mafia.
