On 2 July 2019, the project to expand and modernise the Veracruz port marked an important milestone with the arrival of the Maltese-flagged container ship White Shark at the new purpose-built container terminal (TEC), built by Hutchison Ports-ICAVE. The ship, which measures 294 metres long by 32 metres wide, with a draught of 11 metres, is one of those destined to link Veracruz to the ports of northern Europe, as part of the largest Mexican port upgrade in many years.
