Ecuador rocked by massive data breach

Ecuador’s government was stung into action last week after the personal details of some 20m individuals appeared on an unprotected internet server. The massive data breach was first discovered on 11 September. Within nine days the telecommunications minister, Andrés Michelena, announced that the government had expedited work on a draft data protection bill and sent it to congress.
