The anti-gang strategies pursued by the most affected Central American countries have not only failed to deliver the expected results, but have actually backfired. This is one of the main conclusions of an extensive study, released just in time for the third annual International Gang Conference, to be held in April in San Salvador. The study also challenges the widely held view that the Central American gangs have spread their influence across Mexico.
