‘Glitter revolution’ demands end to gender violence

Since August, thousands of women have taken to the streets of Mexico City (CDMX) and other cities around the country to protest against gender violence. The protests were triggered by recent cases of alleged rape involving municipal police officers in CDMX. The pressure is on the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena) government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to address this issue, given that Mexico has one of the worst levels of femicide (the violent killing of women purely on the basis of their sex) in Latin America.
