New initiative to fight violent crime in Brazil

In late August, Brazil’s justice & public security minister Sérgio Moro launched a pilot plan in five cities across the country, aimed at fighting violent crime through the integration of different public security forces and the implementation of new structures adapted to local realities. Named ‘Em Frente Brasil’, this represents the federal government’s first comprehensive public security initiative since Moro presented his so-called ‘anti-crime package’ to congress in February [SSR-19-03], a collection of bills and legal amendments which has made little progress in the legislature.
