There are three obvious conclusions. The first is that Guyana is on the cusp of a significant oil-driven boom. The second is that there is a very strong awareness, both within the country and amongst the country’s international partners, of the dangers of the resource curse and the measures required to avoid the pitfalls. But, thirdly, Guyana’s highly contested and divided politics greatly complicates the pursuit and implementation of best practice.
