Femicides declared a national priority in Bolivia

Bolivia has made international headlines in recent weeks due to the political crisis which saw Evo Morales forced to resign the presidency on 10 November amid the disputed 20 October general election (see our sister publication Latin American Weekly Report for more discussion of this topic). However, ahead of this development one issue on which both the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) government and opposition agreed was the need to address femicides, which back in July the Morales government had declared a “national priority”, and of which Bolivia has one of the highest rates in Latin America.
