Uruguay election shaped by public security concerns

Uruguay held the second round of its presidential election on 24 November. The unexpectedly close result between the frontrunner, Luis Lacalle Pou of the Partido Nacional (PN, Blancos), and runner-up, Daniel Martínez of the ruling Frente Amplio coalition (FA), meant that no clear winner had yet been announced as this issue went to press. But the entire electoral process has pointed towards the leftist FA losing support after 15 years in power, in part due to voter concerns with rising crime and insecurity.
