Andrés Manuel López Obrador has confirmed that the Tren Maya railway project will go ahead after 92.3% of respondents voted in favour of it in a public consultation. The public consultation took place on 14 and 15 December in 84 municipalities in the states of Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán in south-east Mexico through which the proposed railway would run. According to the government, 92.3% of the 100,940 who cast votes in those states voted in favour of it and 7.4% voted against while 0.3% cast null votes.
