The only thing that is certain about what the media and many politicians continue to call Plan Mexico [SSR-07-09], but officials want known as Iniciativa Mérida, is that US President George Bush Jr has formally asked the US Congress to appropriate US$500m for it in 2008. The declared intention is to add another US$900m over the following two years. The bulk of the funds is meant to go towards upgrading the technological capabilities and mobility of anti-drugs resources.
