In brief: El Salvador’s GDP grew 2.7% in third quarter 2019

* El Salvador’s central bank (BCR) has released new figures which show that GDP grew 2.7% in the third quarter of 2019, year-on-year, up from 1.9% in the second quarter and 2.3% in the first quarter. The BCR is now forecasting 2.3% GDP growth in 2019, down from 2.5% in 2018. According to BCR president Nicolás Alfredo Martínez, the sectors that registered the strongest growth in the third quarter of 2019 were construction (12.5%) and electricity supply (11.8%), while the financial sector grew 4.3%.
