Los Chutas, who operated from Atizapán de Zaragoza and Naucalpan, in México state, specialised in kidnapping students and were renowned for their violence (they murdered two of their victims); five members of the gang were captured in separate raids on 1 and 3 August. Based in Nezahualcóyotl, in the same state, five members of the Los Japos gang, all with lengthy police records, were seized between 22 and 29 August.
Los Purina, based in Huitzilac, Morelos, alternated between kidnapping and hijacking trucks carrying merchandise. Five members were arrested on 13 August. Los Thunder, based in Mexico city, were disrupted on 5 September in an operation that led to four arrests. Another three nameless kidnap gangs were disrupted in Tijuana, Baja California (nine arrests); Guerrero, Morelos and Puebla (four arrests); and Monterrey, Nuevo León (four arrests).
