In brief: Brazil set for another record harvest

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest estimates for the country’s agricultural harvest, which point to a record 241.5m tonnes (t) of grains, leguminous plants, and oilseeds harvest in 2019. This is 15m t or 6.6% more than the 2018 harvest (226.5m t). The Ibge expects the 2020 harvest to be better still, with a projected 0.7% (1.7m t) increase on the volume of harvests. Within this, maize yields are forecast to fall by 7.2%, while soya yields are set to increase by 7.8%.
