COLOMBIA: Security policy under scrutiny

The Christmas period achieved what government negotiators could not, and delivered President Iván Duque some much-needed respite from the protests that swept Colombia’s cities from 21 November 2019. But while the national strike committee will not reconvene until 30 January, Duque’s attention has immediately been drawn elsewhere, to the crisis of persistent violence in rural Colombia.
