In brief: Coffee production up in Colombia

* Colombia’s national coffee federation (FNC) has announced a 9% increase in production in 2019, with the harvest of 14.8m bags (each 60kg) the best performance in 27 years. The FNC attributed this boost partially to good weather, but also commended the introduction of disease-resistant varieties in 83% of plantations. The value of Colombia’s coffee crop rose by 15.8% in 2019, bringing in a total of Col$7.2bn (US$2.2bn).
