MEXICO: Government on back foot over healthcare plan

Strenuous complaints are being voiced over the newly launched Instituto de Salud para el Bienestar (Insabi) public health initiative. The political opposition is accusing the left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of misleading Mexicans over the benefits that the initiative would provide. The accusations are damaging for the government and its claims that it wants to overhaul the public healthcare system and make it universally free at the point of delivery. The López Obrador government is under pressure to address the complaints and show that the initiative can be successful.
