PERU: Vizcarra vindicated but scant interest in elections

Peru’s constitutional tribunal (TC) ruled this week that the decision by President Martín Vizcarra to dissolve congress in September last year was legitimate. Vizcarra’s action had overwhelming public support, but so far the public has shown very little interest in the congressional elections, due to take place on 26 January, to appoint new legislators to replace those whose terms in office were abruptly terminated.
