COSTA RICA: Alvarado claims further security progress

Since assuming the presidency in May 2018, Carlos Alvarado and Costa Rica’s centre-left ruling Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) have overseen promising improvements in public security. This has been marked in particular by a continuing fall in homicides, which totalled 560 in 2019, down from 585 in 2018.
