MEXICO-US | Binational border policing. On 11 February a spokesman for the US Marshals Service at El Paso announced that the authorities of the state of Texas and the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Coahuila will establish and international border police force, to prevent criminals from evading justice by fleeing across the common borders - which at present they are doing by the hundreds. The US federal authorities in El Paso are currently seeking 1,400 fugitives who have fled while on parole; they reckon that about 60% of them have sought refuge in Mexico.
