HAITI: Ten years on since the earthquake

In January 2020 Haiti marked the ten-year anniversary of the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake which left over 220,000 reported dead and forced 1.5m into displacement. While the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that most of those displaced have since returned to their places of origin, other organisations such as the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), the world’s authoritative source of data and analysis on internal displacement, have questioned these claims. Meanwhile doubts persist as to what has happened to the funds pledged for reconstruction efforts.
