MEXICO: Russian minister’s visit bothers US

In early February Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov visited Mexico as part of a regional tour that also took in Cuba and Venezuela. The visit, the first of its kind since 2010, marked the 130th anniversary of the establishment of Mexico-Russia diplomatic relations, and was designed to strengthen bilateral relations. However, this appears to have come at the risk of undermining Mexico’s relations with the US.
