Paraguay goes for broke to overcome pandemic

Paraguay was among the group of countries that swiftly implemented extensive and severe confinement measures to try to combat the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). The government led by President Mario Abdo Benítez was clear that the best way to avoid a public health crisis was to act aggressively to contain the pandemic. But with the containment measures starting to take a heavy economic toll his government is adopting major economic relief measures in an attempt to safeguard the national economy even if this comes at the expense of maintaining Paraguay’s prized fiscal discipline.
